Champs!
History! Top-seeded Sachem North defeated Commack, 4-3, to win the Suffolk County Class AAA championship at Martha Avenue Recreational Complex, securing the program's first county title since 1993 and the fifth championship in school history.

For a program that has consistently been among Suffolk County's elite in recent years, the victory marked the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance for this group of girls.

"We have won our league title five of the last six years, and we've been to the counties three times during those years," Sachem North head coach Ken Sasso said. "It's extremely exciting for us."

The Arrows built a lead, scoring four runs in the first inning, and withstood a late Commack rally to secure the historic victory. Despite the pressure of the final inning, the team remained confident and composed.

"At the end, it did get a little bit tense, but I trust these girls to figure it out, and we did," said Sachem senior captain Brooke Giordano.

For Giordano and the senior class, the championship represented the realization of a goal years in the making.

"It's my four years that I've worked so hard for, and I'm so glad to do it with this group of girls," Giordano said. "It means the world to me to do it with Sachem across my chest."

The county championship adds another chapter to a remarkable run for the Arrows, who have established themselves as one of Long Island's premier softball programs under Sasso's leadership.

Sachem North will now turn its attention to the Long Island Class AAA Championship, where the Arrows will play for a regional title on Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at the Martha Avenue fields.
