Black History Month - Monday Feature (Langston Hughes)
Good afternoon, Academy families,
Happy Monday! Hopefully you all had a great weekend. Our Monday Feature this week is Langston Hughes:
Langston Hughes (1901–1967) was a pivotal African American poet, playwright, and novelist who led the Harlem Renaissance. Born in Missouri and raised by his grandmother, he became known as a "poet of the people," focusing on the realistic, often harsh experiences of working-class Black Americans. His literary style pioneered the concept of "jazz poetry," which incorporated the rhythms of blues and jazz music into verse. He was a prolific writer who wrote novels, short stories, plays, children’s books, and newspaper columns, including the popular "Simple" stories. He is a key figure of the 1920's in American society.
Similar to last week, I'll share this information out to the student body via PA system tomorrow morning.
Enjoy your evening and please keep a look out for a post about P.S. I LOVE YOU DAY, which is Friday, 2/13/26!
